Dimitri's exercises

galaxy.dat is a typical input file to BUDDA to fit a barred galaxy. We will use a similar file on Wednesday, but in the morning of Tuesday I'll be talking about some of the parameters in this file, so it will be useful to have a look at it and keep it in mind (no need to understand it yet!).

Also, here's the BUDDA webpage:

http://www.sc.eso.org/~dgadotti/budda.html

In the "How to get it" section one can download the two binaries (GMODEL and BMODEL) we will use in the hands-on session. Please download the appropriate version 2.2 binaries. With

> chmod a+x file_name

make the binaries executable, and in a terminal type in

./BUDDA_GMODEL_V2.2

in the same directory with ximag.pix and galaxy.dat. This is a test to see if the binaries work well in your system. If BUDDA starts running, great! Now then, stop it (Ctrl-C is fine) and run

./BUDDA_BMODEL_V2.2

It will take a minute or so and produce a number of output files, if everything is working alright. If you find any problems please let me know asap.

Miscellaneous

"Simulations of the Universe with MOND" (A. Knebe)

Look in particular at page 4, Eq. 1 to 4 and what mondian acceleration reduces to in the large and small (Newtonian) acceleration regime.

Here you can find the movies of the GTR simulations (Athanassoula, Machado & Rodionov 2013).

Here you can find the peanut movie.
